QED traces its roots back to 1921, when Hymans Robertson was founded in the United Kingdom. QED South Africa was established in 1991, with a specific brief to provide actuarial services targeted to the Southern African region.

QED's success in achieving that brief is evidenced by the comprehensive Southern African client base, which has developed over the past 10 years

A further milestone in QED's development was marked in December 2001, when changes at Hymans Robertson's United Kingdom office presented strategic opportunities. QED was then established as an independent company, focussing on expanding its services throughout Africa.

QED continued looking for a partner to assist with the expansion into Africa. In 2005, QED joined forces with Aon South Africa to create a partnership that can provide a full range of actuarial and employee benefit services around Africa and beyond.
